4TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE
UPPSALA – SWEDEN
JUNE 21 – 23, 2002
“PRELUDE TO AN ARMENIAN RENAISSANCE”

The Fourth Annual meeting of the Forum of Armenian Associations of Europe will take place from June 21 to 23 in Uppsala, Sweden. The annual meeting of FAAE is a unique opportunity in Europe for all interested Armenian organisations and individuals to meet, exchange experience and develop a common project.

This fourth annual meeting will conclude a very active year for Armenians in Europe and for FAAE itself featuring for instance an intensified debate in the EU institutions on the Caucasus and Turkey and the second  Armenia – Diaspora conference in Yerevan due in next May.

The Forum of Armenian Associations of Europe was founded in 1998 to fulfil the task of establishing and fostering a co-operational network among the various Armenian Organisations of the European Diaspora. Since its inception the FAAE has spearheaded a movement towards closer co-operation among Armenian communities and organisations. The annual meeting’s primary purpose is accordingly to review the progress of co-operation between Armenian organisations at the European level, and to chart the course for future action.

The meeting’s emphasis this year will be placed on education in matters relating to the Armenian culture and heritage. The meeting will also hold a debate on the structures Armenian organisations have chose to confront the challenges facing them. Armenian political leaders have also been invited to take part in the meeting.

The FAAE meeting will be hosted in Uppsala by the Union of Armenian Associations in Sweden. The meeting will take place in the main auditorium of the Teacher training faculty of Uppsala University. Uppsala is Sweden’s historical capital and most renowned University city. Midsummer week-end in Sweden marks the summer solctice, a period in which the sun hardly sets.

Participants will be provided with opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the region, and a visit into Stockholm archipelago is also anticipated. Uppsala is close to Arlanda airport and in Stockholm’s vicinity.
